Indigenous Sports Academy (0) vs Prairie Hockey Academy (6) U17
The inaugural game of the 2026/27 CSSHL season did not hold back as ISA and Prairie fought tooth and nail in a high energy affair. Tensions would flare early on with each team getting their share of powerplay time, but no one would find the twine through twenty. Goaltender’s Grayson Girling (61/67) and Cameron Rusyniak (22/22) would each a handful of key saves through the opening frame. Early in the second, defender Kolby Penner (2G) would score the first goal of the season of a pinball play after a shot from the point, giving PHA the first lead of the season. Fast forward to the third and Prairie’s special teams took over. Prairie would add another five in the third including four on the man advantage. Tony King (1G, 2A) would take the charge offensively leading his squad with three points on the evening. Penner would also add his second later on as the cherry on top. Rusyniak made 22-saves for his first career CSSHL shutout while Girling posted a valiant effort in the loss making 61 saves on 67 shots against.
Northern Alberta Xtreme (3) vs Calgary International Hockey Academy (8) U17 Prep
Calgary IHA kicked off their season with a strong showing over rivals NAX. Seth Gagnon (2G) and Ben MacBey (1G, 1A) would score back-to-back to open the scoring for Calgary. NAX’s Jacob Harpe would get one back soon after, but a strong individual effort from Eric Sexton (1G, 2A) restored the two goal advantage. Northern Alberta Xtreme (3) vs Calgary International Hockey Academy (5) U17 Prep
The Northern Alberta Xtreme’s U17 Prep contingent made the trip south to open the campaign against the Calgary International Hockey Academy on Thursday, with Calgary victorious 8-3. The two squads would square off again on Friday, with this time, the Northern Alberta Xtreme looking to be in total control. NAX led 2-0 within the first five minutes of the game and held that lead into the break, but once the puck dropped on the second, CIHA arose. Seth Gagnon, Eric Sexton (1G, 1A), and Kale Okubo scored in quick succession to turn the deficit into a 3-2 lead. NAX levelled the score later in the second, but they’d only be on level ground temporarily, with Madden Rome and Ben MacBey popping in with early third-period goals to secure CIHA the 5-3 win.
King’s Edgehill School (1) vs Kuper Academy (12) East
Kuper Academy’s season opener represented a mark made by a capable KA side looking to establish themselves as an Eastern heavyweight. Kuper’s Thomas Issa (2G, 2A) scored 35 goals in 23 games last season and would pick up right where he left off, with Issa scoring on either side of the first intermission to help Kuper to an early and emphatic lead. KES scored one in the second, but that was all they could do against KA, with Kuper, led by Issa’s four points and Nicholas Mahfouz’s hat-trick, winning 12-1.
Delta Hockey Academy (2) vs BWC Academy (5) U17
The season for both the Delta and BWC U17 squads started Friday afternoon, with the head-to-head matchup featuring two teams that will see each other again next weekend. Ryder Miller scored shorthanded in the first period for Delta to, at the time, tie the game 1-1. That was the high point for Delta, though. Two in 71 seconds come the halfway point of the second period extended BWC’s lead beyond what Delta could remedy, with Vincenzo Carnovale, Jayden Jeon, Theo Falk, Owen Chapman, and Matthew Sutherland scoring BWC’s five in the victory.
Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (5) vs North Shore Warriors (2) U17
Nico Lanari may have opened the scoring for North Shore, but the Sea Devils would strike back hard with four unanswered goals to close out the opening frame. Both teams would trade goals once more throughout the second before a quiet third closed things out. Mason Sokolosky (2G) would lead the PCHA charge with a pair of goals while Austin Murray (2A) and Jace Allin (2A) picked up two helpers each.
Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (0) vs Delta Hockey Academy White (4) U15
From the drop of the puck on Friday between the Pacific Coast Hockey Academy and Delta Hockey Academy White’s U15 squads, Delta looked superior. The DHAW U15 contingent looked cohesive, were clinical, and in short, seemed like they’d exercised the early-season demons more efficiently than their opponent. Imaan Kaila scored the only goal of the first for Delta, but it was the shots on goal count that was more indicative of the ice’s tilt, with Delta outshooting the Sea Devils 15-4. Delta would end the game having outshot PCHA 57-15, with Kaila’s opener added to by Augie Doyle, Evan Bamara, and Aaron Neilson en route to their 4-0 win.
Edge School (7) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (4) U15
Edge School’s U15 squad put on an offensive clinic at home Friday, jumping out to a four-goal first period and never looking back en route to a 7-4 win over the Northern Alberta Xtreme. Troy Reti (3G) was the story of the night, opening the scoring just 3:39 in and adding two more, including a shorthanded snipe and a power-play marker in the third, to finish with the hat-trick. NAX struck first through ChuTang Wang (1G), but Edge answered immediately, getting goals from Colton Roussel (1G, 1A) shorthanded and Kolter McHale (2G) on the man advantage to take firm control by the break. Kase Lindberg (1G) rounded out the first-period outburst. NAX’s Nash Whalen (1G, 1A) got one back shorthanded in the second, but Reti and McHale each struck again in the third to keep Edge comfortably ahead, with Corbin Blatz (1G, 1A) and Yixuan Liu (1G) adding late consolation goals for NAX in the final minutes. Edge’s power play finished 3-for-7 on the night, while NAX went 0-for-6 with the man advantage. In goal, Damon Fleischer turned aside 29 of 33 shots for the win, while Alexander Masikewich stopped 35 of 42 in the loss.
STAR Hockey Academy (4) vs Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy (0) U17
STAR Hockey Academy needed just one period to decide this one, breaking a scoreless deadlock wide open with a four-goal third to shut out Coeur d’Alene on the road. Goaltenders Dantaie Franklin (22/22) and Aiden Olynick (33/37) traded zeros through two periods of tight, penalty-filled hockey, but STAR’s special teams turned the tide in the third. Ben Caldwell (1G) opened the scoring on the power play just over nine minutes in, and Edrick Himley (2G) needed only 33 seconds to make it 2-0. Talin Wroblewski (1G) added a second STAR power-play goal, and Himley capped his multi-goal night with the eventual 4-0 final with under three minutes to play. Dallas Toth (2A) set up two of STAR’s four goals to lead the way offensively. Franklin earned the shutout, stopping all 22 shots he faced, while Olynick made 33 saves in a tough-luck loss for Coeur d’Alene.
Edge School (4/SO) vs RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (3) U17 Prep
Edge School survived a wild shot-differential mismatch and a shootout to edge RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg on home ice Friday night, despite being thoroughly outshot 52-16. Eli Wasylyk (1G) opened the scoring for RHAW just past the five-minute mark of the first, but Edge exploded for three in the second, with Tyler Carpenter (1G) converting on the power play, followed by goals from Cade Mazurski (1G) and Charlie Usher (1G, 1A) in a span of just over a minute to flip the game around. Alex Delorme (1G) pulled RHAW back within one before the second intermission, and Charlie Marin (1G) tied it up on the power play midway through the third to force overtime. Neither side could find the winner in the extra frame, sending the game to a shootout, where Ezra Blair supplied the lone conversion to give Edge the extra point. Chase Miles turned in a strong outing in relief of the shot barrage, stopping 13 of 16 in regulation and OT before shutting the door in the shootout, while Miller Fettes made 48 saves on 51 shots in the loss.
OHA Edmonton (6) vs South Alberta Hockey Academy (2) U17 Prep
OHA Edmonton’s power play did the heavy lifting Friday, going 3-for-8 with the man advantage en route to a 6-2 win over South Alberta. Marek Pashko (2G) opened the scoring on the power play in the first, and Kane Strudwick (1G, 1A) made it 2-0 late in the frame. SAHA clawed back within one in the second on goals from Nash Davis (1G) and Carter Jarvis (1G, 1A), but OHA Edmonton answered with three unanswered before the intermission, with Pashko’s second power-play goal proving the eventual winner and Jaxson Weisgerber (2G) sandwiching a power-play marker of his own around it to push the lead to 6-2 through 40 minutes. Bentley Fitzgerald (1G) added an emphatic exclamation point in the third, scoring shorthanded to cap the scoring. Hunter Jacobs (2A) and Jiseong Kim (2A) each set up a pair of goals to lead OHA Edmonton’s offence. Rowen Germain made 31 saves for the win, while Paxton Smigelski stopped 20 of 26 in the loss.
STAR Hockey Academy (8) vs Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy (4) U17 Prep
STAR Hockey Academy buried Wenatchee Wild under a barrage of shots Friday, firing 75 pucks on net en route to an 8-4 win that was more one-sided than the final score might suggest. Scoreless through one, STAR broke the game open with a five-goal second period, getting things started through Ronin Brunner (1G, 1A) and Benton Fuller (1G) on the power play just a minute apart. Wenatchee answered with Joshua Rzonca (1G, 1A) on the man advantage, but STAR kept pouring it on, with Rhys Rucintango (1G) and Mason Casorso (1G, 1A) extending the lead before Samuel Fischer-Blanton (1G) briefly cut into it. Aaron Comer’s (1G) go-ahead marker with under nine minutes left in the second proved to be the eventual game-winner, though Liam Rebillaco (2G, 1A) kept Wenatchee within range with a power-play goal of his own before the break. STAR pulled away for good in the third behind Spencer Papillon (1G, 1A) and a shorthanded tally from Brody Lukinbill (1G), with Mason Olson (1G) adding the exclamation point before Rebillaco’s second closed out the scoring. Caleb O’Gorman turned aside 22 of 26 shots for the win, while Reed Hickman was peppered but resilient in a tough outing, stopping 67 of 75 in the loss.
RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (2) vs Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy (3/OT) U17 Prep
In a heated affair to start the season, RHA Kelowna and CDA saw its fair share of punihsments handed out for a combined 38 PIMS. Alex Li would strike first for CDA but that was later matched by RINK’s Jordan Anastasiadias. Into the second, Li would bury another to restore CDA’s advantage. CDA would find themselves in penalty trouble near the end of the second, allowing Prince George, BC’s Will Tidsbury to strike on the powerplay, tying things up once more. The third would see nothing but perfect goaltending from Gunnar Podollan (49/51) and Max Davis (37/40) meaning this one would go into an extra frame. With only 12-seconds left in overtime, Li would once again find the back of the net, securing the hat-trick in his CDA debut but more importantly the victory. Podollan would end the night with 49-saves to his name in the win.
RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (8) vs BWC Academy (7) U15
RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna held off a furious BWC Academy comeback bid to open the season with an 8-7 shootout of a game at Burnaby Winter Club, despite being outshot 56-30. RHAK jumped out to a 3-0 lead inside the first nine minutes, with Dane Morley (1G, 1A) and Nash Lodge (1G) scoring on the power play before Staal Kurka (1G) made it three straight. BWC, led all night by Cassius Briscoe (3A), clawed back with goals from Jordan Gerow (1G) and Joseph Ferone (2G, 1A) before the first intermission. Vincent Vass (2G, 1A) had the answer for RHAK in the second, but Lucas Hansen (1G, 1A) pulled BWC within one shorthanded before Sylas Goodale (1G) restored the two-goal cushion. Isaiah Abdulla (1G, 1A) kept BWC within striking distance heading to the third. From there, the teams traded blows, with BWC’s Ferone and Tanner Dickson (1G, 1A) scoring twice on the power play to tie it up, only for Landon Jebb (1G), Lincoln Satrum (1G), and Vass’s second of the night to push RHAK back ahead for good in a wild final frame. Rylan Peterson made 46 saves in relief for the win, while William Houle stopped 22 of 30 in a losing effort.
